I used to think that if I ever started a band, it would be a post-punk band with a funky rhythm section. That was the kind of music I wanted to hear, but the only bands I knew of that fit the bill were Gang of Four and Gossip.
Gut Health, from Melbourne, has basically done what I dreamed of. But they are also their own quirky thing. This song is a pretty good example. Like most of their tracks, it's driven by a big, grooving, melodic bass, accompanied by splashes of sharp guitar and vocals. I love when the guitars devolve into chaos, and the wild dance energy. I've listened to this song a million times.
I don't know a ton about them, but they seem like interesting people. Sometimes they collect empty cans at their shows as a reference to the fact that they make like 100x as much from recycling a can as they do from a stream on Spotify. I think they give the recycle money to other bands, although I could be wrong about that part.
