The Belair Lip Bombs - Hey You

For some reason, like half of my favorite bands are from Australia / New Zealand.

This song, "Hey You," is the lead single from The Belair Lip Bombs new album, Again. I've been enjoying all of the songs on the album though.

I stumbled across one of their tracks in 2024, and subsequently listened to their first album, Lush Life, on repeat for at least a month. I listened to it so much that I actually kind of got sick of it. Fortunately, they also have 2 EPs that are great, so I listened to those until I was sick of them!

They've evolved from more surf rock on their EPs, to post-punky indie rock on Lush Life (with lead singer Maisie Everett adopting a vaguely Joe Strummer-esque accent), to well-produced indie on Again. The fact they've done all of those styles well seems to indicate that they are just great songwriters. And they seem to be going places - in 2024 they had like 13k monthly listeners on Spotify. Now they have 625k monthly Spotify listeners, were just on the cover of NME, and are on their first (I think) headlining tour of the UK/EU/US.
